Patti Garvey
Cello
Patti Garvey has been performing for over 20 years throughout North America, South America and Europe, playing in Carnegie Hall, Chicago’s Symphony Center, Cleveland’s Severance Hall, Miami’s New World Center, Teatro Teresa Carreño of Caracas, Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, and Konzerthaus of Berlin. Originally from Wheaton, Illinois, she began her studies of the cello at age nine in the public schools and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music and a master’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has performed with many of
the nations orchestras including the Rochester Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, and Grand Rapids Symphony. She embraces all genres of music and has recorded for
movies and tv shows like The Voice, American Idol, X-Factor, Wolverine, and Die Hard. She maintains an active chamber music performance schedule and can be heard throughout the Chicagoland area on modern cello, Baroque cello, viola da gamba, and has collaborated with Picosa, the new music ensemble.
Teaching is an extremely important aspect of her musicianship, Patti wants to share her love of music and the cello! She teaches all ages of students from 3 years old to 93.
She received her Suzuki certificate in beginning cello at the Chicago Suzuki Institute. She combines this method with her own compositions and compilations where she incorporates popular music and tailor made etudes for each student. She coaches sectionals and works with groups as well as providing one on one lessons.
